This piece explores the nature of feelings that occur in the flickering of an instant; be it love, embarrassment, or anxiety.

This work is derived from 3 famous statues by Alberto Giacometti. A work in 3 parts, its static harmony explores the colors of vertical harmonic structures.

This music emulates the heartbeat of something coming; at first calm and tranquil and then bombastic and fanfare-like.

This fun little piece introduces a musical idea, scurries around the orchestra in a wild roller coaster to its Eulenspiegel-esque ending.

This exuberant work is a great opener for any concert. It captures the exhilaration of first time experiences through the lens of a youthful listener.

Originally used as a film score, and then later set to a ballet, this work borrows the “American” sonorities employed by composers such as Aaron Copland and Samuel Barber.

This piece utilizing two Chinese instruments and explores the tranquil soundscape of artistic introspection and change.

Originally used as music for a ballet by the same title, this piece explores harmony to its fullest expression.

Fugue in D minor (2016) – 4 minutes
for string trio

This work is dedicated to my teacher, Lloyd Rodgers, who was the first teacher to reveal what to listen for in music. With some perseverance, this fugue developed into something he would be proud of.

Le Immagini Del Circo (2016) – 11.5 minutes

This three movement work (Zanni, Vecchi, Inamoratti) emulate characters from Comedia del’Arte.

Mammon’s Maschine (2016) – 6 minutes
for 2 flutes, 2 oboes, bass clarinet, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, and string quartet

This minimalist piece depicts the cyclical nature of greed. Mammon is referred to as the god of greed and consumption - to which his demon minions dance to this hypnotic music.

Propatia Distatia (2011) – 4 minutes
for saxophone quartet

I composed this piece to express my distaste for Proposition 8 in California (a motion to eliminate the right for same-sex couples to marry). I thought it was a crude, outrageous debate to be having in the 21st century and wrote this piece in response. It depicts an argument going in circles with a "call to vote" at the end. The last punctuated notes represent the syllables of a chorus counting to 8.

In honor of the memory of Jose Antonio Elena Rodriguez, a 16-year-old Mexican boy, shot by a U.S. border agent where the two countries meet for the crime of throwing rocks.

Smoking Lounge at the End of the World (2020) – 3 minutes

Spring Equinox (2020) – 3.5 minutes
for solo cello

I call it a cello poem because its form is likened more to poetry than a traditional musical structure. It is in 2 parts: the first is a Western aesthetic and the other an Eastern one. The descending 3 note motif links the piece as whole. A symbolic expression of a world both united in a crisis yet divided in all manner of things. It was composed on the American Easter holiday, which usually commences the beginning of Spring: a time of rebirth and rejuvenation. Its somber tone is ironic, much like the 2020 Easter holiday.
